According to veterinarian Dr Adam Christmann, there are certain signs to find out whether your dog loves you as much as you love them.
Speaking to his one million followers on TikTok, he said the first thing to look for is missing shoes.
He noted that taking your shoe is a sign they trust you, saying: “It’s been said that they do it out of endearing reasons.”
The vet said sharing the same room or bed as their owner is a strong sign they trust them, as they “sleep where they feel safe”. So, keep this in mind the next time you want the bed to yourself.
It is also worth trying to notice whether they make eye contact with you. Dr Christmann said this “helps create trust”, so try to grab their attention and look into their eyes when you speak, as this could help your bond grow.
Another tip to build their trust is respect their boundaries and pay attention to their body language.
You could also provide them with a steady routine, such as keeping walking, feeding, and bedtimes the same, so they trust you will be there to look after them every day.
It is also important to show you care for them, whether you give them a bath, book regular cockapoo haircuts, cuddle up to them in the evening, or give them frequent ear rubs.
