How physiotherapy Can Help Post-Accident Recovery
Cycling fans might have been most concerned about the fate of British rider Mark Cavendish when he fell off his bike in the Giro d’ Italia event after a stray dog caused a rival rider to crash into him, but for many pet owners, such a collision is one of their worst nightmares.
That is not to diminish the potential harm to Mark Cavendish or any other cyclists, but cases where a dog wanders into a road and is hit by a bike or, worse still, a motor vehicle, can be calamitous. Pets can be killed outright or so badly hurt they have to be put down.
Often, however, the dog is injured but can be saved. That can lead to some big vet bills and a long recovery process. However, it is one that can be aided by treatments like having dog physiotherapy in London, something that can get your furry friend literally back on their feet sooner.
If a collision with a fast-moving cyclist is bad enough, an accident with a motorcycle can be much worse. As Edinburgh Live reported, one dog was recently left with a fractured skull after being hit by a teenage motorcyclist in the city.
Owner Cristina Fernandez revealed that had they needed to pay for an X-ray it would have cost £1,500 and surgery would have been £3,000, neither of which she could afford. Thankfully, the dog has been recovering despite suffering a nasty head injury.
While that incident could have been a lot worse, for many dogs it is. In particular, the Edinburgh incident did not lead to a broken limb, but if this happens the dog can need a leg resetting and the physio will be needed to help build up and strengthen the muscles after the cast is removed.
It can be a terrible experience to see your dog injured in an accident. But with the right treatment and physio, a full recovery can be possible.
