How To Avoid Common Mistakes When Grooming Your Fluffy Dog
Fluffy dogs such as cockapoos are wonderful pets, but that big, soft coat is both the best and worst part of owning one.
When regularly groomed, especially by a professional, a soft, fluffy coat can make them lovely to pet and become a great opportunity for dog and owner to bond.
However, fluffy dogs tend to have very particular grooming needs and it takes some research, experience and professional help to do it, as one unfortunate owner learned the hard way.
It is always useful to learn how to properly take care of your dog and their coat, however. With that in mind, here are some common mistakes to avoid when taking care of fluffy dogs.
Do Not Brush So Hard You Can Hear It
If you can hear the brush running through your dog’s coat, you are brushing too hard, using the wrong type of brush for your dog’s coat, or potentially both.
Make sure to take your time, do your research on what types of brush are best, and be gentle with your pet, even if you are dealing with rather stubborn matted hair.
Always Brush Before Bathing
Speaking of matted hairs, whilst many people with long or thick hair will wash and condition it first before brushing, with dogs you will want to do the opposite.
Washing first causes matted patches to get bigger and more tightly knotted together, making them more difficult and painful to get rid of.
Do Not Rush
Most dogs love to be bathed and pampered. After all, you are giving them so much attention and love. With that in mind, try not to rush through the brushing and grooming.
Part of the reason why is that rushing increases the chance you might accidentally hurt your dog, but also if you are rushing, your dog might see it as a sign that you are agitated and get upset as well. Keeping calm and patient will help them to do the same.
