Paul O’Grady’s Funeral Features Battersea Dog Home Friends
Paul O’Grady was famously a huge lover of dogs, so it makes perfect sense they should feature in his send off. That is why a few of the four-legged creatures from Battersea Dogs & Cats home took part in his funeral.
The entertainer, who died unexpectedly at the end of March, was an ambassador for the rescue centre, and worked with them for years.
Following his death, chief executive of Battersea Peter Laurie said: “Battersea will forever remember Paul as a devoted animal lover with the biggest heart, who fell head over heels in love with every dog he met at our centres.”
He stated that the 67-year-old had been instrumental in promoting campaigns. Paul even gave homes to five rescue dogs from Battersea over the last decade after falling in love with them.
Mr Laurie said the centre will “forever be indebted to him for his endless generosity and support”.
Therefore, it seems only fitting a number of dogs from the home formed the guard of honour at his private funeral service on Thursday (April 21st), Sky News revealed.
Since his death, the public has also thrown its support behind the charity, raising over £270,000 for the cause that meant so much to him.
O’Grady, who was well-known for his drag queen persona Lily Savage, died at his home in Aldington of sudden cardiac arrhythmia, which was brought on by ongoing heart problems.
Paul’s love for dogs meant he broadcasted several shows raising awareness of their mistreatment and abandonment. To be properly cared for, pets need a lot of love and attention, which is why regular doodle grooming is a necessity, especially after the long winter.
