Top Dog Takes Up Residence In Downing Street
The recent whirlwind of political comings and goings in Downing Street has led to all kinds of hot debates, but one issue has been completely overlooked - dogs.
Boris Johnson’s Jack Russell cross Dilyn was a well-known sight during his time in office, so dog lovers might have been disappointed when his replacement turned out to be Liz Truss, who did not bring a dog with her.
As it happened, there was some doggy inspiration provided by her arrival, as entrepreneur David Farquharson spent over £3,500 designing and creating a range of Liz Truss-themed dog toys. Unfortunately, her economic plans got chewed up before the toys could end up in the jaws of anyone’s pet, leaving his investment to go to waste as she quit after just 45 days.
He told the Daily Express: “I can't believe what has happened - before I have even received the first shipment - that she is going to be out of office.”
Thankfully for dog fans, there is now a new pooch in Number 10. Rishi Sunak’s fox red Labrador retriever Nova has taken up residence in the flat with the rest of the family, no doubt hoping he will be there a bit longer than the Truss’s.
Whether Mr Sunak will be taking Nova for some dog daycare in Chiswick remains to be seen. The pet will be no stranger to central London life after his owner’s time next door at Number 11, but the busy streets of Westminster will mark a significant contrast with the wide open spaces of Mr Sunak’s Richmond constituency - this being Richmond in Yorkshire, not west London.
As well as a bit of pampering, Nova might find some other great sources of fun as Britain’s top dog in the corridors of power. After all, having lost the leadership election to her in the summer, Mr Sunak might complete his revenge on Ms Truss by giving Mr Farquharson a call and enquiring about a new dog toy.
