Physiotherapy:
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy plays a huge role in care for our dogs, from pre-surgery to post surgery and even conservative management of dogs with various conditions.
Manual therapies such as joint mobilisation and compression are used to improve joint range, maintain cartilage health. Massage, myofascial release, stretching and trigger point release can improve local/ general circulation of the soft tissue, improve lymphatic drainage, improve muscle pliability and flexibility.
We use a wide range of Electrotherapies during our treatments. Our state of art Class IV companion animal health therapy laser can be used to reduce pain and inflammation, accelerate wound healing and tissue repair. Pulsed electromagnetic therapy (PEMFT) targets pain and swelling and has been shown to accelerate fracture healing. Transcutaneuos electrical nerve stimulation (TENs) works reduce pain by diminishing pain signals travelling to the brain. It also stimulates the opioid mechanisms of the body to result in pain relief lasting several hours after treatment. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) can be used to strengthen and re-educate weak muscles, reducing rate of muscle wastage.
Land-based exercises can also be prescribed by our trained physiotherapists, to focus on gait retraining, body conditioning and targeting active joint range to build muscle strength and functional engagement the body to help our dogs return to normal daily activities after injury or surgery.
